Variable Speed Pumps
As of July 2021, the Department of Energy requires that new inground pool pumps be energy efficient variable speed pumps, rather than single speed pumps.
Before this mandate went into effect, about 90% of our customers were purchasing variable speed pumps anyways simply because of the energy savings of about $750.00 per year
All of the Pentair variable speed pumps integrate with Pentair controls and some work with AquaLink controls also.
Pentair IntelliFlo 3
The NEW Industry Standard with more features
Pentair has included every possible feature with this pump. It can connect to your Pentair control system just like the original IntelliFlo, but no special cable is needed. It connects to your phone via Bluetooth for programming. It connects to your wifi router so you can use the Pentair Home app to control it from anywhere. You can purchase an on-board control pad/screen for the pump also.

This is the IntelliFlo 3 pump but with the addition of a special relay board which does two things:
First, you can control up to two other circuits from this pump (such as poolsweep pump or light or salt system).
Second, you can control speeds on this pump from other non-Pentair control systems. The setup is a bit complicated, but it can be done.

Pentair IntelliFlo VSF
This pump has been phased out – no longer available.
This has been the variable speed standard of the industry for a decade or longer. It has the same pump body as the Whisperflo, but has a 3.4 HP variable speed power end.
It is being phased out because Pentair has come out with the IntelliFlo 3 pump however parts will be still be available for a long time

Pentair WhisperFlo VST
Solid Basic Variable Speed Pump
This pump combines the legendary WhisperFlo pump end with a variable speed power end. This is the best value in variable speed pumps.
It has a simpler control pad on the pump, but it is definitely all you need for a standard backyard pool.

An Economy Version of the VS Pump
