As of July 2021, the Department of Energy requires that new inground pool pumps meet minimum energy efficiency standards which basically mandates variable speed pumps.
There are some single speed pumps that still meet the Department of Energy requirements. They work fine on smaller pools.
Pentair WhisperFlo 1.1 THP
A Great Performer for Smaller Pools
If you have a basic home pool in the 25,000 gallon range or smaller, this pump will provide ample circulation and energy efficiency without the expense of a larger Variable Speed pump.
Even at 45 GPM (gallons per minute) it will circulate 24,300 gallons in just nine hours. This pump has the time tested WhisperFlo pump end combined with a TEFC motor end.

Single Speed on the SuperFlo platform
This is the economical version of the WhisperFlo 1.1 THP pump.
It is not a bad pump, but for a little bit more, I would recommend purchasing a Whisperflo pump. It has a longer track record and it has 6 bolts instead of 4 securing the pump together.

Pentair LA01N Booster
Our top choice for poolsweep booster pumps
Sometimes simpler is better and that is certainly true with poolsweep booster pumps. This pump has a very basic design and is less costly and complicated to repair.
In the freeze of Feb 2021, these pumps were far less prone to freeze damage than the Polaris PB40-60 pumps.

Pentair HydroBoost Pump
Energy Efficient Booster Pump
The Pentair HydroBoost pump saves about 25% in energy costs according to the manufacturer website. It is also quieter and smaller.
This is a good pump although we prefer the LAO1N basic booster pump because it is a much simpler design and simpler is better.
